WHAT IS A FOOT GUARD UNIFORM WORTH?
enlisted person's uniforms are issued by the First Company on behalf of
the State of Connecticut, and are considered property of the State of Connecticut as they are purchased with state funds. When a
member leaves the command or passes on, the uniform and all its pieces must be returned to the Quartermaster of the First Company.
No part may be retained for sentimental purposes, or for sale or
transfer. Uniform pieces may also be returned to any State
Marshal for transfer to the First Company, or to the State Armory on Broad Street in
Hartford for transfer to the First Company. A Foot Guard enlisted person's uniform may not be kept, sold,
traded or auctioned on eBay. Failure to return a
Foot Guard uniform is unlawful. Possession of a Foot Guard uniform by a person other than the person to whom it was issued is a crime. Due to the high replacement
costs of our uniforms, particularly that of the Grenadier Red uniform, possession
can constitute a
only exception to the state property rule is officer uniforms. Many officer uniforms were purchased by the individual officer, and were never issued by the
state. An officer uniform that was not issued by the Quartermaster of the First Company is not state property and may be lawfully possessed. This exception
does not include an officer's "Busby" cover, sword, state arms
medallion, and the belt to the Grenadier Red uniform. These items are issued by the Quartermaster of the First Company and must be
returned. Possession of these items is unlawful and may constitute a felony, due to the high replacement costs involved.
When uniforms are removed from service, they must be destroyed in accordance with state
statute. They may not be kept, sold, traded, or auctioned on
eBay. Occasionally, uniforms that have been removed from service are loaned to a museum or other military
unit, however the State of Connecticut retains ownership of the uniform, and it may not be kept, sold
traded or sold on eBay.
