In the photos below, members of the band practice for and participate in a performance at Lincoln Center inspired by an 1880 event in Danbury, CT where George Ives marched two bands through each other.
The event in the photos below, coreographed by Wesleyan composer Neely Bruce, consisted of two parades that marched through the neighborhoods around Lincoln Center in such a way as to pass through each other in front of the Metropolitan Opera House. Included in the parade or along the parade route were four marching bands, nine choruses, three organs, three handbell choirs, two fife and drum corps, two solo trumpets, two bagpipe bands, a mariachi band, a samba band, an African drum and dance ensemble, the drum of nations, a jazz quartet, a chamber orchestra and a full orchestra. It was *very* Ives.
